Posts: 27 01/02/2009 00:21:15	Tags : None Not sure if this is going to work, but see this link to CADAC beats on Google Maps. Once opened, change the view to "Satallite" (button on top right of the map) and then zoom in to a beat. If you click on some of the parking signs and push-pins you should get one of Phil's/Tango's photos off this forum. I'm not particularly familiar with CADAC waters so feel free to correct me on any of the info and I will get it changed. Either that or someone more familiar with the waters can have change access to amend the maps. The beat boundaries are basically as shown on the maps sent with club membership. I've not put any parking on some beats (Tyfos or Gwnodl Bach) because I've never been there. Phil - you mentioned you couldn't get Google Earth to work on Linux. How about this on Google Maps? I have to say the google maps are also tempting but may force cadac member to join google community i am working on rendering some images and blending them. I will keep you posted once your maps go live. That's one of the benefits of Google Maps over Google Earth - no downloads or exchange of personal data (perhaps the odd cookie - just like viewing any webpage). Posts: 27 03/02/2009 19:35:23	Hi Phil, I've transferred the above info onto the 'live' version on Google Maps - see the hyperlink in original post above. Can I clarify something - Are you drawing these maps to use as static pictures, in which case do you want/need the live version that anyone can view on Google Maps? My thought was that you could simply add a hyperlink to the live version from a 'Maps' button on the CADAC website. The added bonus of using the live version is the photos you get when you click on the parking/pushpins. If you want to use this, rather than drawing static pictures, then perhaps send me your email address and I'll add you as a 'contributor' so you can update the online maps yourself. Not a problem if you don't want to use it though Phil. If you do stick with the static maps, can I politely suggest keeping them all orientated with North at the top (I get confused otherwise - but that's not hard!) One of the problems I found when taking the static shots is allowing for size capture vrs detail by re orientating the maps I can squeeze a loner beat along a diagonal line I will increase screen res on other computer and recapture. I think if we use the dual approach with the live maps and the static maps members can print off these before visiting a beat, but also get directions before they set off. Once the static maps are embedded on the new site I will put a north point on each arrow to show nearest town village if not shown. Best of both worlds. This work is the template for the new site maps. One thing has become clear some of the boundaries have changed looking at the old maps, Some of these will need reviewing by committee to insure they are correct. It Looks like i have been poaching a little over the years without intent. please don't take these as perfect they are just a guide. I noticed you've shown Tyfos left bank as being shorter than the right bank. The club map shows it extended, with both the left and right bank downstream boundary ending at the same point. Posts: 1048 04/02/2009 20:35:45	Hi Kev thanks for the feedback I have asked Joe Wright to look at the maps and feed back. The pins are not exact boundaries, The signs on the beats are the definitive markers although some of these need moving as Crogen looking upstream left bank for example was extended last season to math the right hand upstream limit. I will place a statement on the finished maps to this effect. On one of the older maps I have got the downstream limit end on the bend but these older maps they are not brilliant and are very basic sketch construct. I do note on the new map sent this year its level Once Joe or other club official has browsed them I will adjust as directed. As i said above it looks as though i have been inadvertently poaching over some unmarked boundaries in the past.
