Think of adding a trotting rod to my kit, I need some guidence on what is recomended. Last used a fibreglass bruce and walker match rods back in the seventies.

I used to "hone" my striking for the Grayling fishing on the shallow areas of the Trent or Dove fishing for Dace and Chub.Size 16 dries of pretty much any pattern would get the smaller fish rising,though the bigger Chub liked a big sedge or daddylonglegs.Took Chub to over 3lb on dries,great fun on my local river where there were few trout or grayling.
Now I live in Scotland so I'm stuck for coarse fish,I did get a nice perch on a pheasant tailed nymph on a local trout water...

Hi all,just found this site googling for information on Grayling.I'm due on a meet on the Tay early in the new year with some trout fishing lads from "wild fish".
My first Grayling was caught on bait from the Hampshire Avon in the mid 1970's at "the Bull Water" at Downton .Since then I've fished for them both with the fly and(sorry) the float from many English and recently Scottish rivers.

Hi All,
Just to report back on the current (or lack of it!!) state of my local Berkshire River. Very low, clear making life difficult for my beloved sticks to do the business.
Find an increase in flow,and the fish are there including some nice Browns. Pike active today taking several fish before I was able to steer her in. A nice fish for the venue at around 8lb. Not bad on a 2lb bottom in a pacey sill pool.
Very nice to catch first trot, with many more falling in the mild...
